Sacred Mosaic of Knowledge: UNAM’s Central Library Mural

The Central Library at UNAM in Mexico City is crowned by a massive mosaic mural by artist Juan O’Gorman that narrates Mexico’s history across pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern eras. The ten-story library stands as an icon of mid-20th-century Mexican modernism and a cultural landmark on the Ciudad Universitaria campus. Visiting the library reveals a vivid dialogue between architecture, public art, and national identity.

La Biblioteca Central de la UNAM en Ciudad de México está revestida por un enorme mural en mosaico del artista Juan O’Gorman que representa la historia de México desde lo prehispánico hasta lo moderno. El edificio de diez pisos es un emblema del modernismo mexicano de mediados del siglo XX y una pieza central del campus de Ciudad Universitaria. La fusión de arquitectura y muralismo en la biblioteca ofrece una lectura visual de la identidad nacional.
